Description

This Bizen sake bottle is by Yoshiteru Koriki, a popular young ceramic artist who was an apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. The bottle features a superb scarlet hue, as if the flickering flames themselves were captured within the piece. The "nuke" (clear glaze-free patch), resembling a blazing orange sunset, is exceptionally deep, giving the work a breathtaking landscape worthy of a top-tier *kase-goma* (stony sesame-glazed) piece—one that is impossible to forget once seen. The *nuke* appears as if fireballs are scattering from a roaring flame, making it a joy to behold simply as a painting. Signed wooden box (shiho-san style)
Rim 3.6cm x Body diameter 9.3cm x 9.3cm x Height 13.6cm; Capacity: approx. 440cc Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his pottery-loving father, he aspired to become a ceramic artist. After graduating from high school in 1989, he studied under the father-and-son duo of Sozan and Yuho Kaneshige to master the craft. After seven years of training, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 to strike out on his own, successfully firing his first kiln the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, his work was selected for the "Kita no Kashiki" (Northern Sweets Bowl) exhibition, and in 2002, he was selected for the "Chanoyu no Zokei" (Forms of Tea Ceremony) exhibition for the first time.
