Description

This Bizen sake flask is by the popular young artist Yoshiteru Koriki, a former apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. It features an exquisite kiln-change glaze, highlighted by shimmering silver ash deposits and a magnificent scarlet "nuke" (unfired area). The unbroken *kumadori* (shading) lines and the violet-silver ash, which sparkles like frost, are true testaments to the piece being favored by the gods of the kiln. The beautiful scarlet hue is nothing short of superlative, and as you rub sake into the surface with use, it will transcend even that level of quality as it ages. Original signed wooden box (shiho-zan)
Rim 3.7cm × Body 9.6cm × 9.4cm × Height 12.9cm; Capacity approx. 450cc Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Inspired by his father, a pottery enthusiast, he set his heart on the path of ceramic art. After graduating from high school, he studied pottery techniques under the master Sozan Kaneshige and his son Yuho Kaneshige, beginning in 1989. After seven years of training, he established his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996, and successfully fired his first kiln the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, his work was selected for the "Confectionery Container Exhibition" (Tsukatte mitai Kita no Kashiki-ten), and in 2002, he was selected for the first time for the "Exhibition of Chanoyu Form."
