Description

This is an E-Kohiki sake cup by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with an exceptional aesthetic sense who continues to evolve in his handling of clay, firing, and craftsmanship. This piece was created as a study, inspired by the wabi-style charm of an E-Kohiki cup the artist encountered in the past. It features white slip and iron brushwork covered in glaze; the crazing (kannyu) inside the cup gives it a refined wabi aesthetic, as if it had been aged for hundreds of years. The powerful yet rustic iron brushstrokes perfectly complement the gentle, resilient curve of the vessel’s silhouette, embodying the spirit of wabi-sabi. The contrast in luster between the interior and exterior—the latter featuring a remarkably matte glaze—reflects the meticulous attention to detail characteristic of Morimoto-sensei. Signed wooden box to follow (please allow some time for delivery).
