Description

This Bizen rectangular plate is the work of Sho Fujita, an artist who masters various forms of art and fuses them into a single mode of expression within himself. It is from his "Chiso (Strata) Bizen" series, featuring a design that looks as if it were hollowed out in a cylindrical shape, much like a core sample taken from a geological survey. As the name suggests, the layers of clay composition result in a marbled coloration, and the surface is meticulously smoothed to achieve a balance between aesthetic beauty and ease of use. Other parts of the plate feature a rather strong kiln-change (yohen), and the design is finished with a "chigirite" (torn-edge) technique, creating a contrast in texture and design with the surface. (Please note that due to the concept of the Chiso Bizen series, there are large stone bursts on the piece.)
