Description

This Bizen sake cup is by Takashi Baba, who was born in Imbe and has loved Bizen ware since childhood, finding his life's joy in creating works and firing kilns. It is a rare, old-fashioned piece from Baba-sensei, whose work is often characterized by challenging forms. The wheel marks and rim construction are reminiscent of potters from the Showa era, reflecting his strong impulse to create a variety of Bizen ware and touch upon its true essence. The earthy, reddish-brown color, unique to the climbing kiln used for this design, also has a refined, astringent quality. Signed wooden box (double-slat)
Diameter 7.2cm × Diameter 7.1cm × Height 5.8cm Takashi Baba was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ware artist Shosuke Baba. Thinking from a young age that he would become a potter, he chose to study sculpture in university to broaden the scope of his ceramics. He graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts with a degree in sculpture in 2006 and honed his skills at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture. He became independent in 2007 and held his first solo exhibition. Currently, he is active primarily through solo exhibitions at department stores.
