Description
This sake cup features the gentle scarlet clay tones characteristic of the work of Iwao Kaneshige, who diligently continues to hone his craft in the kiln used by generations before him—including the legendary Toyo Kaneshige and Michiaki Kaneshige—having been born and raised in the prestigious Kaneshige lineage. Created using the high-quality, meticulously prepared clay handed down through the Kaneshige family, this piece possesses a simple yet profound charm that draws the viewer in, along with a delightful texture. Its smooth, fine-grained surface, reminiscent of high-quality Japanese washi paper, is superb, making it a piece rich in elegance that allows one to appreciate the very essence of the clay through touch, sight, and feel against the lips.
With signed wooden box (two-way sliding lid)
Diameter 7.6cm x Diameter 7.3cm x Height 3.7cm Iwao Kaneshige is the eldest son of Michiaki Kaneshige. Born and raised in a family of Bizen ware potters, his own love for ceramics led him to pursue a path in pottery. After refining his skills under the guidance of the Kaneshige family, he became independent in 1995 and held his first solo exhibition at a gallery in Okayama. He participated in the Kaneshige Family Exhibitions in 1999 and 2001.
