Description
This is a new Bizen black sake cup by Takashi Baba, an artist born in Imbe who has loved Bizen ware since childhood and finds life's joy in creating works and firing kilns. The thick-walled sake cup has been carved instinctively, resulting in a youthful, aggressive form. Fired intensely, the black surface glows, with liquefied ash glaze (goma) clinging to the carved surfaces as if sliding across them. The unique three-legged base, an evolution of the traditional split foot, is a wonderful touch characteristic of Takashi Baba.
Signed wooden box (double-slat lid)
Diameter 7.2cm × Diameter 6.6cm × Height 5.9cm Takashi Baba was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ware artist Shosuke Baba. Considering a career as a ceramicist from a young age, he chose to study sculpture in university to broaden his artistic perspective. In 2006, he graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts with a degree in sculpture and continued his training at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture. He became independent in 2007 and held his first solo exhibition. He is currently active primarily through solo exhibitions at department stores.
