Description

This is a Bizen covered vessel by the popular young artist Yoshiteru Kōriki, an in-house apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. It is a lidded container that can be used for various purposes, such as a sugar pot or a pickle jar. It is rare to find lidded vessels crafted by such a popular artist, and this piece, despite its function, utilizes exceptional clay, featuring an outstandingly fine-grained *kase-goma* (dry sesame glaze) combined with a magnificent orange clay texture. The matching lid is also solidly crafted, and its stunning kiln-transmutation, which mirrors that of the body, is truly beautiful. This lovely and unique covered vessel will make a wonderful accent to any dining table. Paper box
Diameter 10.8cm × Diameter 10.6cm × Height 12.0cm Yoshiteru Kōriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his father, who loved pottery, he aspired to pursue the craft. After graduating from high school, he began studying pottery techniques under the master Sozan Kaneshige and his son Yuho Kaneshige in 1989. After seven years of training, he built an ascending kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, to strike out on his own in 1996, and successfully produced his first firing the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, he submitted work to the "Exhibition of Northern Confectionery Vessels You Would Like to Use" and was selected; in 2002, his work was selected for the "Chanoyu Modeling Exhibition" for the first time.
