Description
This is a new Bizen black beer tumbler by Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki, an artist who continues to lead the world of Bizen ware with an inexhaustible creative power. This is his latest work, fresh from the kiln, and marks his first-ever creation of a black beer tumbler. The deep, glossy black finish is elegantly accented with yellow sesame-like speckles that look like scattered stars. The black finish also provides a smoother texture to the touch, offering a different experience from typical Bizen pieces. It is an exquisite item perfect as a premium gift for someone special.
Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 7.7cm x 7.7cm x Height 9.7cm Jun Isezaki was born as the second son of Yozan Isezaki, an artist skilled in sculptural pottery, and learned ceramics from a young age. He entered the path of ceramics after graduating from the Special Art Course at Okayama University in 1959. His body of work is wide-ranging, encompassing traditional pieces such as vases, plates, and tea ceremony wares, as well as sculptural works and ceramic wall reliefs. He places great importance on both shaping and firing, creating a style brimming with a contemporary sensibility that draws on the unique characteristics of his materials and kilns (anagama, climbing, and electric kilns). As a leading figure in relief art, he has presented numerous works. He became a regular member of the Japan Kōgei Association in 1966. From 1978, he served as a special lecturer in fine arts at Okayama University for nine years. In 1998, he and his brother Mitsuru were both certified as Holders of Okayama Prefecture Important Intangible Cultural Properties, and in the same year, he became the Secretary General of the Chugoku Branch of the Japan Kōgei Association. In July 2004, he was designated as a Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure).
Awards: Recipient of many awards including the Kaneshige Toyo Prize, Okayama Prefecture Cultural Encouragement Award, Sanyo Shimbun Award, and the Excellence Award at the Exhibition of Tea Ceremony Modeling; also serves as a judge for prefectural exhibitions.
