Description

This is a new Bizen black beer cup by Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki, an artist who continues to lead the world of Bizen ware with a creativity that never fades. This is a brand new piece, fresh from the kiln, and the first time he has created a black beer cup. The deep, glossy black is elegantly accented by yellow sesame-like speckles that look like scattered stars. The black finish also creates a smooth texture, offering a different tactile experience from standard Bizen pieces. It is an exquisite item perfect as a premium gift for someone special. Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included
Diameter 7.4cm × Diameter 7.4cm × Height 9.6cm Jun Isezaki was born as the second son of Yozan Isezaki, a master of fine ceramic crafts. He began learning pottery at a young age and embarked on his career after graduating from the Special Fine Arts Course at Okayama University in 1959. His body of work is wide-ranging, encompassing everything from traditional flower vases, plates, and tea ceremony utensils to ceramic walls and objets d'art. In his creative process, he places great importance on both molding and firing. He is known for a style overflowing with a contemporary sensibility that leverages the unique characteristics of his materials and kilns (anagama, climbing kilns, and electric kilns). He is also recognized as a leading relief artist and has presented numerous works. He became a full member of the Japan Kōgei Association in 1966. From 1978, he served as a lecturer for the Special Fine Arts Course at Okayama University for nine years. In 1998, he and his brother, Mitsuru, were both designated as Holders of Okayama Prefecture Important Intangible Cultural Properties, and in the same year, he became the Secretary-General of the Chugoku Branch of the Japan Kōgei Association. In July 2004, he was designated as a Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure).
