Description
This Bizen small plate is by Takashi Soga, an artist who strives to capture ancient beauty by recreating the same firing conditions as those used for antique Bizen ware. As one would expect from an artist whose work is inspired by Ko-Bizen, this piece appears simple at first glance yet conceals a rich depth of character. The front is designed to be the perfect supporting role for the food it serves, with a finish consisting solely of an understated, earthy tone, punctuated only by three circular "hidasuki" fire markings. The back reveals the addictive charm of the Ko-Bizen style, allowing one to savor the shifting, intense patterns of the scarlet hidasuki set against a matte, azuki-bean-colored clay base.
