Description

This Bizen small plate is by Takashi Soga, an artist who strives to recreate the aesthetic of the past by replicating the same environment in which ancient Bizen ware was fired. Inspired by Old Bizen, Soga’s work appears simple at first glance but carries a mellow, profound depth. The surface is designed to serve as a perfect, understated backdrop for food, featuring a calm, earthy tone and minimal ornamentation beyond a three-circle "nuke" pattern, allowing the colors of the cuisine to take center stage. The underside, however, reveals the addictive charm of the Old Bizen style, where one can leisurely enjoy the rich transitions of *hidasuki* (fire-cord) markings set against a matte, azuki-bean-colored clay base.
