Description

This Bizen-yaki mug is the work of Takashi Baba, who was born in Imbe and has loved Bizen pottery since childhood, finding his life’s joy in crafting works and firing kilns. He applies a near-liquid clay to the surface to create a "doro-e" (clay painting) reminiscent of ripples in the sand on a beach. The handle has also been thoughtfully designed, shaped specifically to fit the fingers for a comfortable grip. The combination of relatively basic kiln-transformation effects, such as sangiri and goma, creates a calm aesthetic that is perfect for everyday use. Paper box
Diameter 11.2cm x Diameter 9.7cm x Height 10.4cm Takashi Baba was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ceramic artist Shosuke Baba. Thinking from a young age that he would become a potter, he chose to study sculpture in university to broaden the scope of his ceramics. After graduating from the Department of Sculpture at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2006, he went on to hone his skills at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture. He became independent in 2007 and held his first solo exhibition. He is currently active primarily through solo exhibitions at department stores.
