Description

This Bizen-ware mug is the work of Takashi Baba, who was born in Imbe and has loved Bizen pottery since childhood, finding his life’s joy in crafting works and firing kilns. He creates mud paintings that resemble the rippling patterns of sand on a beach by applying liquid clay to the surface. The handle also features a thoughtful design, shaped to fit the contours of the fingers for a comfortable grip. Combined with relatively basic kiln effects such as sangiri (gray/black reduction) and goma (ash glaze), the result is a serene aesthetic perfect for everyday use. Paper box
Diameter 10.7cm × Diameter 9.0cm × Height 9.6cm Takashi Baba was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ceramic artist Shosuke Baba. Considering a future as a ceramic artist from a young age, he chose to study sculpture in university to broaden his artistic scope. After graduating from the Tokyo University of the Arts with a degree in sculpture in 2006, he honed his skills at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture. He became independent in 2007 and held his first solo exhibition. He is currently active primarily through solo exhibitions at department stores.
