Description
This is a Bizen ware sake bottle (tokkuri) by Motoo Kaneshige, who continues his pottery practice in Mie Prefecture and is the fourth son of the great restorer of Bizen ware, Toyo Kaneshige. This piece is fired using high-quality mountain clay, resulting in a bright, brownish clay texture with the refreshing luster characteristic of the Kaneshige school. By varying the firing technique within the kiln chamber, the artist aimed for the Bizen "sesame" (goma) glaze effect, and this dedication has come to fruition in the form of well-melted golden sesame glazes that adorn the surface. It is a work that exudes elegance amidst its simplicity, and is a piece personally recommended by Motoo Kaneshige.
