Description

This is a Bizen tea cup by the popular young artist Yoshiteru Koriki, a direct apprentice of the master Sozan Kaneshige. It is rare for a tea cup to feature such a gentle firing, where a dry *kase-goma* (stony sesame) glaze meets a scarlet clay body. The body flares out gently, providing both a sense of stability and ease of handling. The clay inside has a magnificent orange hue reminiscent of a ripe persimmon, promising to develop a beautiful patina with use. Paper box
Diameter 8.6cm × 8.6cm × Height 9.6cm Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his father’s love for pottery, he pursued the path of ceramics. After graduating from high school, he began an apprenticeship in 1989 under the masters Sozan and Yuho Kaneshige, from whom he learned ceramic techniques. After seven years of training, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 to establish his independence, and successfully fired his first kiln the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, he was selected for the "Exhibition of Northern Confectionery Containers I Want to Use," and in 2002, he was selected for the "Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition" for the first time.
