Description

This is a new *e-hakeme* (brushed slip) teacup by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with an exceptional aesthetic sense who is constantly evolving in his approach to clay, firing, and form. Its somewhat large, unpretentious structure is refined, and while intended as a teacup, it can also be used as a *shochu* cup. He uses a bundle of thin rice straw as a brush for the white slip application, creating a thin, uneven coating that results in a wonderfully weathered appearance, evoking the spirit of *wabi-sabi*. The iron-underglaze painting, executed with vigorous brushstrokes reminiscent of Joseon Dynasty Gyeryongsan ware, is also magnificent. It is a stunning piece where the world of fading white exudes a deep sense of *wabi*.
