Description

This is a new *ebakeme* (brushed slip) tea cup by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with a superior aesthetic sense who constantly evolves in his approach to clay, firing, and form. Its slightly large, unpretentious construction is elegant, making it suitable not only as a tea cup but also as a cup for *shochu*. The brush used for the white slip decoration is made from a bundle of thin rice straws, creating a thin, uneven application that results in an exceptionally weathered landscape, evoking a sense of *wabi-sabi*. The vigorous iron-painted brushwork, reminiscent of Joseon Dynasty Gyeryongsan ware, is also magnificent; it is a superb piece where the world of fading, weathered white deeply touches the *wabi* heart.
