Description

This is a new *ebakeme* (brushed slip) teacup by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with an exceptional aesthetic sense who continues to evolve in his work with clay, firing, and craftsmanship. Its slightly large, unpretentious form is elegant, making it suitable not only as a teacup but also as a cup for shochu. He uses a bundle of thin rice straw as a brush for the white slip; the slip is applied thinly and unevenly, creating a weathered appearance that evokes a profound sense of *wabi-sabi*. The iron-brushed design, executed with a vigorous brushstroke reminiscent of Joseon dynasty Gyeryongsan ware, is magnificent; it is a stunning piece where the world of withered, fading white speaks deeply to the *wabi* heart.
