Description
This is a new Bizen black yunomi (tea cup) by Masao Akiya, a potter who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works brimming with unique originality while embracing a fresh spirit. The piece is crafted from clay rich in iron—the same type used for forging swords—mixed with a minute amount of cobalt to achieve its black hue. The generously applied yellow sesame glaze further evolves the black slip, revealing subtle hints of cobalt blue. The design is based on the premise of daily use; while stylish, it offers an orthodox and easy-to-handle experience. Its elegant design is sure to spark conversation when hosting guests.
