Description
This Bizen-kuro (black Bizen) teacup was fired in a new kiln by Takashi Baba, an artist born in Imbe who has loved Bizen ware since childhood and finds his life's joy in creating works and firing kilns. Due to the firing in the new kiln and seasonal factors, the sesame glaze has taken on a matte, ash-gray hue, while the black surface has turned a metallic black with faint blue-tinted gold accents. The thick sesame glaze flows in tandem with the undulating potter's wheel marks, fully conveying the intensity of the firing. The design, including the foot, features a deep, recessed construction that reflects the unique creativity typical of Mr. Baba.
