Description

This Bizen black rice bowl is the work of Masao Akitani, who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works brimming with unique originality amidst a fresh spirit. This piece unites the new sensibilities cultivated under Jun Isezaki with the artist's own desire—as a ceramic fan himself—to pursue ease of use. While aiming for a novel black rice bowl unlike anything seen before, he has consciously avoided letting the cold black color take center stage, instead utilizing warm *hidasuki* (fire-cord) markings and *goma* (ash glaze) as the main features, with careful consideration given to usability. The thickly applied *goma* has undergone kiln transformation into a pale blue, creating a vibrant landscape so luxurious one might forget it is a rice bowl. Paper box
