Description

This is a new Bizen sake cup by Shin Nakamura, a celebrated master of sake vessels and tableware and the eldest son of the renowned Bizen pottery master Rokuro Nakamura. This piece was recently fired; by changing the arrangement in the kiln, the *kase-goma* (dry, textured sesame glaze) and *hi-iro* (scarlet fire marks) have become deeper, creating a more pronounced contrast. The clay displays three distinct types of rich, mellow qualities, with a viscous, deep *shiso* (perilla-leaf) purple and vibrant scarlet on the front, and a soft, gentle orange hue in the interior. The delicate, mellow character of the interior is particularly magnificent—a testament to the Nakamura family’s expertise in crafting sake vessels with the user’s experience in mind. Signed wooden box (shiho-san style)
Diameter 7.6cm x Diameter 7.6cm x Height 5.2cm Born as the eldest son of Rokuro Nakamura, Shin Nakamura began learning the fundamentals and honing his skills under his father in 1971. To further study the firing techniques of Living National Treasure Toyo Kaneshige, he spent ten years assisting and receiving guidance from Michiaki Kaneshige during kiln firings. He established his own studio in 1975. He specializes in tea ceramics and tableware, as well as flower vases, sake bottles, and sake cups. He actively holds solo exhibitions across Japan, including in Tokyo, Okayama, and Nagoya.
