Description

This is a Bizen square sake server by Mr. So Isezaki, who is active as a regular member of the Japan Kōgei Association and is the third son of the Intangible Cultural Property holder, Mr. Mitsuru Isezaki. The piece is shaped into a square while retaining a soft texture as if the clay were woven, creating a work where the concepts of earth, firing, and form are perfectly matched. By incorporating a zelkova lid crafted by a woodworking artist, the piece is finished with a warmth that combines wood and ceramics. The soft scarlet color, which brings out the maximum charm of the Bizen clay, suggests it will develop a wonderful patina with use. With signed paulownia box (Nihō-san)
12.1cm diagonal from rim × 8.0cm diameter × 7.9cm diameter × 8.6cm height Mr. So Isezaki is the third son of the Intangible Cultural Property holder, Mr. Mitsuru Isezaki. After graduating from the Industrial Design Department of Okayama Technical High School in 1987 and studying under Mr. Joji Yamashita, he also received instruction from his father starting in 1994. In 2001, he built his own climbing kiln, fired it for the first time, and became independent. His work primarily centers on wheel-thrown pieces, including sculptural works such as vases and flattened jars that utilize intricate lines, as well as tea ceremony utensils such as water jars and tea caddies. He has received the Okayama Prefectural Governor's Award and Incentive Awards, among others, and has been selected for the Japan Traditional Kogei Exhibition, the Japan Traditional Kogei Branch Exhibitions, and the Exhibition of Tea Ceremony Modeling.
