Description

This is a Bizen black coffee set by Masao Akitani, an artist who trained under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works full of unique originality rooted in a fresh sensibility. This work combines the innovative spirit cultivated under Jun Isezaki with the artist's own passion for pottery, which drives his pursuit of ease of use. While retaining the stylish texture of black Bizen ware, the piece prominently features *goma* (ash glaze) and *hidasuki* (fire cord) patterns, adding a sense of warmth to its novelty. The saucer alone is very stylish and would be interesting to use on its own as a small plate. Paper box
Cup: 12.0cm x 9.5cm x 7.4cm (height)
Saucer: 12.1cm x 11.9cm x 1.1cm (height) Masao Akitani was born in Saitama in 1968. He studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki starting in 1998, and after ten years of training, he built his own kiln in Bizen and became independent in 2008. He held his first kiln opening in 2009. His work has been selected for the Tanabe Museum of Art's "Chanoyu Molding Exhibition" and the Japan Kogei Association Chugoku Branch Exhibition, and he has received awards including the Okayama Prefectural Art Exhibition Prize and the Incentive Award.
