Description

This black sake bottle is the work of Koichiro Isezaki, who was born as the eldest son of Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and has brought a fresh breeze to the world of Bizen ware through his exceptional sense of style and masterful sculpting ability. While maintaining the basic form of the traditional sake bottle, he has transformed it into a contemporary bottle-shaped design. The aesthetic of deep yellow sesame-seed ash glaze (goma) against the black ground is sophisticated, and although it is a traditional Bizen kiln transformation, it feels like cutting-edge art. It is as if the Bizen sake bottle itself has been refined and encouraged to evolve by being passed through the filter of Koichiro Isezaki's vision. Original signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Rim diameter 4.0cm × Body diameter 8.6cm × Body diameter 8.6cm × Height 15.5cm; Capacity approx. 400cc Koichiro Isezaki was born as the eldest son of Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki. The Isezaki family is a prestigious name in Bizen ware; his grandfather was the Intangible Cultural Property holder Yozan Isezaki, and his uncle was the Intangible Cultural Property holder Mitsuru Isezaki. Koichiro aspired to be a ceramic artist from a young age. After graduating from the Department of Sculpture at Tokyo Zokei University in 1994, he studied abroad in the United States. He studied ceramics for approximately two years under New York-based ceramicist Jeff Shapiro, which greatly broadened his perspective on art and pottery. Upon returning to Japan in 2000, he continued his training under his father alongside his father's other disciples. In 2002, he submitted his work to the Tanabe Museum of Art’s Tea Ceremony Exhibition for the first time and was selected.
