Description
This is a new Bizen sake cup by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with a superb aesthetic sense who is constantly evolving in his approach to clay, firing, and craftsmanship. True to the name "choko" (small cup), it is very diminutive and charming, yet allows one to enjoy the refined, rustic firing and clay character typical of Morimoto-sensei. The piece is based in a sophisticated gray sangiri (kiln-altered) finish, accented by sesame glaze and the texture of the clay, creating a tasteful, enduring aesthetic. The interior features exceptional "tobigoma" (splashed sesame glaze), where the sesame splattered vigorously across the weathered brown clay surface evokes the appearance of antique Bizen ware. The diameter is about two sizes smaller than a standard sake cup.
