Description

This is a new sake cup by Tomio Ochi, an artist who diligently devotes himself to kiln firing under the tutelage of Yasuhito Abe, pouring his ever-present creative aspirations into his ceramics. This sake cup is a new challenge in Shigaraki ware by Ochi, crafted using clay that he and Abe once collected together in Shigaraki, and, like his Bizen works, it has been fired multiple times. The bright, fire-kissed clay characteristic of Shigaraki is accentuated by a smooth natural glaze. The form features a dynamic foot, which is signature to Ochi's style. Signed wooden box to follow (please allow some time for delivery)
Diameter 7.9cm x 7.7cm x Height 4.2cm Tomio Ochi graduated from Niihama Technical High School in Ehime Prefecture in 1949. In 1952, he moved to Tokyo to study oil painting and sculpture. Thereafter, he continued to pursue painting and sculpture while working at a company. In 1997, he visited Yasuhito Abe in Ushimado, Setouchi City, Okayama Prefecture, to seek his mentorship, and in 1998, he built his own kiln in Ushimado. He now dedicates himself to creating Bizen ware, drawing on his background in sculpture and painting.
