Description

This is a new Bizen hand-molded sake cup by Yoshiteru Koriki, a popular young artist and former apprentice to the late master Sozan Kaneshige. This hand-molded sake cup, carefully formed by building up the clay, has an atmosphere that seems to cradle the sake within. The soft light gray kiln-transmutation effects are combined with a *hi-iro* (scarlet) hue that promises to age beautifully with use, and this captivating scenery will surely enhance the flavor of your sake. Due to the hand-molding process, the cup is slightly thicker toward the base, and the foot, carved in a powerful swirling, twisted pattern, is quite dynamic. (Please note that the cup may have slight wobbling due to the shape of the foot.) Signed wooden box (shiho-san style)
Diameter 6.8cm × 6.6cm × Height 4.8cm Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his pottery-loving father, he aspired to pursue a career in ceramics. After graduating from high school, he studied under the father-son duo of Sozan and Yuho Kaneshige starting in 1989. Following seven years of training, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 and set out on his own, successfully firing his first kiln the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, his work was selected for the "Exhibition of Confectionery Vessels from the North You Want to Use," and in 2002, he was first selected for the "Exhibition of Tea Ceremony Ceramics."
