Description

This is a new Ido sake cup by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with a superb aesthetic sense who continues to evolve in his work with clay, firing, and craftsmanship. True to Morimoto-sensei’s passion for researching not only Bizen ware but also Ido ware, this piece possesses a style and seasoned quality reminiscent of the classics. Driven by a desire to translate the tactile appeal of the Ido bowls cherished by ancient tea masters into a sake cup, he has created an elegant form that mirrors a tea bowl, complete with magnificent crackle glazes and "kairagi" (plum blossom) textures that promise to develop beautifully over time. This piece features prominent "amamori" (rain leakage) patterns—distinctive blue-purple spots that were beloved by ancient tea masters and admired by valiant warriors—allowing one to fully appreciate a simple, unaffected beauty. Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included.
Diameter 9.0cm x Diameter 8.7cm x Height 5.0cm Yoshinobu Morimoto was born in Okayama Prefecture in 1976. He completed his studies at the Bizen Pottery Center in 1996. After working independently, he held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2004. Since then, he has held annual solo exhibitions nationwide, primarily in Tokyo. He was selected for the "Chanoyu Modeling Exhibition" at the Tanabe Museum of Art in 2005, 2006, and 2007. In 2008, he exhibited at the "Contemporary Sake Vessel Exhibition" at Nihombashi Mitsukoshi, Tokyo, and in 2009, he exhibited at the "Contemporary Tea Bowl Exhibition," also at Nihombashi Mitsukoshi. In 2010, he held a solo exhibition titled "Yoshinobu Morimoto Special Feature" at Tenmaya in Okayama, among numerous other exhibitions across the country.
