Description

This is a large Bizen teacup by Yoshiteru Koriki, a popular young artist who was an apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. As the name "large teacup" suggests, this piece is among the largest in size for a Bizen teacup, comparable to a small cylindrical tea bowl. While it is a very large and dynamic work, the kiln transformation (yohen) features a very fine and delicate matte texture. It has a lovely aesthetic with a soft, matte "goma" (ash glaze) texture that feels as fine as sandpaper, set against a base of sweet, fired scarlet. Because such high-quality kiln transformation can be enjoyed at an affordable price, it is perfect for those new to Bizen ware. It can be used for various purposes depending on your ingenuity, such as a cylindrical tea bowl, a regular teacup, or a shochu cup. Paper box
Diameter 9.7cm × Diameter 9.6cm × Height 10.7cm Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his father, who loved pottery, he aspired to follow the path of ceramics. After graduating from high school, he studied under the father-son duo Sozan and Yuho Kaneshige starting in 1989 to learn the techniques of pottery. After seven years of training, he built a climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, and became independent in 1996, successfully producing his first firing the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, his work was selected for the "Exhibition of Sweets Vessels from the North You Want to Use," and in 2002, he was selected for the "Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition" for the first time.
