Description

This new Ibe sake vessel is by Megumi Sueda, a female artist who studied under Yasuhito Abe and captivates fans with her unique works. The piece features a deep luster reminiscent of a beetle's shell and a black-purple surface that draws the viewer in. Baked with the meticulous care characteristic of a female artist, the vessel is finished with a three-dimensional landscape created by the depth of the *goma* (ash glaze), which slides across the surface like water and appears as a fine, misty spray. As implied by the name "Hanae Kiln"—bestowed by her mentor, Yasuhito Abe—the form, resembling a blooming flower bud, is incredibly stylish. Includes signed wooden box (shiho-san style)
Diameter 6.9cm x Diameter 6.6cm x Height 6.0cm Megumi Sueda graduated from the Faculty of Law and Literature at Shimane University in 1990 and completed the program at the Okuizumo Ceramic Art Institute, affiliated with the Shimane Design College, in 2001. In 2001, she began her apprenticeship under formative artist Yasuhito Abe. In 2002, she built her "Hanae Kiln," a fully underground anagama kiln, in Yokota-cho, Nita-gun, Shimane Prefecture. She has participated in group exhibitions in Tokyo in 2002, and in Sapporo and Niigata in 2003.
