Description
This is a new Bizen sake cup by Mashiro Aiga, an artist known for creating works that are consistently straightforward and full of character. This is a new *hira-hai* (flat cup) style, a form he has rarely produced until now. Having been mentored by Anjin Abe, the inner surface features such a rich, dense yellow *goma* (sesame ash glaze) that it looks as if he scooped up the melted ash directly from the kiln. The complex, deep earthiness—a blend of orange, *shiso*-purple, and dark brown—seems to infuse the sake with the raw vitality of the clay, and as the aroma of the sake expands, the rich hues of the earth sink deep into the soul.
