Description

This is a new Bizen sake vessel by Megumi Sueda, a female artist who studied under Anjin Abe and captivates fans with her unique work. Evolving the forms she inherited from her mentor, Anjin Abe, the piece features her signature flower bud-like design. The fine "goma" (ash glaze) landscape demonstrates the excellence in firing she learned from her master, showcasing a rich variety of textures, from areas where the glaze has pooled heavily to those where it has lightly scattered. The viscous, reddish-purple clay body is a perfect match for the floral form. Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 7.0cm x Diameter 6.8cm x Height 6.1cm Megumi Sueda graduated from the Faculty of Law and Letters at Shimane University in 1990 and completed her studies at the Okuizumo Ceramic Art Research Institute, affiliated with the Shimane Design College, in 2001. That same year, she began her apprenticeship under the ceramic artist Anjin Abe. In 2002, she built her own subterranean anagama kiln, "Hanae-gama," in Yokota Town, Nita District, Shimane Prefecture. She has participated in group exhibitions in Tokyo in 2002, and in Sapporo and Niigata in 2003.
