Description
This is a white-glazed sake cup by Tomoyuki Oiwa, who has made his highly anticipated debut after studying pottery under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. The glaze has an exceptionally smooth texture and is applied so thickly that it appears soft, almost like liquid milk. The clay body has a rugged texture, as if carved directly from rock, creating an enjoyable contrast with the soft glaze. The bottom of the interior is meticulously finished with a spatula, reflecting Oiwa’s uncompromising approach to his craft. The *hidasuki* (fire-cord) markings applied over the piece blend with the white glaze, creating a cloudy, straw-ash-like effect that adds to the aesthetic appeal of the piece.
