Description
This Bizen katakuchi (spouted bowl) is by Takashi Soga, an artist who challenges the beauty of antiquity by recreating the same environment in which ancient Bizen ware was fired. Reflecting his deep respect for old Bizen, Soga-sensei fires carefully selected clay as if to let it mature within the flames, creating a moist, subtle, and gentle texture. The eruption of iron and the viscous, oozing fire-cord (hidasuki) patterns are beautiful, resulting in a high-quality surface that could easily be mistaken for ancient Bizen. Such an impactful texture pairs well with any dish, and the harmony between the colorful ingredients and the antique-style beauty of the piece will look stunning on your table.
