Description
This is a black-glazed sake cup by Tomoyuki Oiwa, who has made his highly anticipated debut after studying pottery under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. The glaze has an exceptionally smooth texture and is applied thickly, appearing so soft that one might mistake it for liquid gel. The clay body has a rugged, rock-like quality, creating an enjoyable contrast with the soft glaze. Where the glaze thins over the edges of the carved fluting, it reveals a deep black, while the grooves take on a dark olive hue reminiscent of oil paint, making for a fascinating finish.
