Description
This is a black-glazed sake cup by Tomoyuki Oiwa, who has made his highly anticipated debut after studying pottery under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. The glaze is applied thickly with an extremely smooth texture, appearing so soft and gel-like that it almost looks as if it were still liquid. The clay body has a rugged texture, as if it were hollowed out from solid rock, and the contrast with the soft glaze is truly delightful. Where the black glaze thins over the sharp edges of the carved facets, it reveals a deep black, while the grooves take on a shade resembling dark olive oil paint, creating an intriguing visual effect.
