Description
This Bizen crane-neck flower vase is by Takashi Soga, an artist who challenges the beauty of antiquity by recreating the same firing conditions used for ancient Bizen ware. Reflecting Mr. Soga’s deep respect for ancient Bizen, the vase is crafted from carefully selected clay, fired as if to age it within the flames, resulting in a moist, supple, and gentle texture. A rich, unbroken *hidasuki* (fire-cord) pattern wraps around the yellowish, moist surface, presenting a rugged and powerful aesthetic that subverts the typically "elegant and delicate" image of *hidasuki*. Given the vase's powerful presence, it will further enhance the delicate charm and the depth of character in the flowers and branches arranged within it.
