Description

This is a new Bizen beer cup by Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki, who continues to lead the world of Bizen ware with an inexhaustible creative power. It features the dazzling color variations characteristic of an anagama kiln, with the base deep red clay vibrantely transforming into dark brown, amber, and other shades. The bundles of straw used for the *tasukigake* (sash) pattern create an intriguing landscape; one side remains a *hidasuki* (fire-cord) pattern, while the other side has fused with *goma* (ash glaze) to transform into glassy crystals. This premium Bizen beer cup is often chosen as a gift. Signed wooden box (four-way tenon joint)
Diameter 8.1cm x Diameter 7.6cm x Height 9.4cm Born as the second son of Yozan Isezaki, a master of ceramic craft, Jun Isezaki learned pottery from an early age and embarked on his career after graduating from the Special Fine Arts Course at Okayama University in 1959. His body of work is vast, spanning from traditional flower vases, plates, and tea ceramics to ceramic wall art and sculptural objects. He places great emphasis on both the forming and firing processes, utilizing the unique characteristics of his materials and various kilns (anagama, climbing, and electric) to create a style brimming with a modern sensibility. He is also a leading figure in relief art, having unveiled numerous works. He became a full member of the Japan Kōgei Association in 1966, and from 1978 served as a special lecturer in fine arts at Okayama University for nine years. In 1998, he and his brother Mitsuru were both designated as Holders of Okayama Prefectural Important Intangible Cultural Properties, and in the same year, he became the Secretary General of the Chugoku Branch of the Japan Kōgei Association. In July 2004, he was designated a Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property by the Japanese government.
