Description
This is a blue-glazed sake bottle by Tomoyuki Oiwa, who has made his long-awaited debut after studying pottery techniques under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. The piece features a unique, sharp-edged form over which glaze has been vigorously poured, resulting in a fresh style full of dynamism. The synergistic effect between the edges and the glaze is also superb; the glaze appears black where it is thin over the edges, while it shifts to an indigo hue where it pools thickly in the grooves. Overall, the bottle has a substantial, dignified presence, and combined with the smooth texture of the glaze, it possesses a dense quality as if the clay itself has been compressed. (*Please note: There is slight wobbling.)
