Description
This blue-glazed sake flask is by Tomoyuki Oiwa, who has made his highly anticipated debut after studying pottery under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. The piece features a unique, sharp-edged form over which the glaze has been vigorously poured, resulting in a vibrant and dynamic style. There is a magnificent synergy between the edges and the glaze, with the glaze appearing black where it is thin over the edges, and shifting to a pale blue-green where it pools in the grooves. The flask has a substantial, weighty feel overall, and combined with the smooth texture of the glaze, it possesses a dense presence, as if the clay itself had been compressed.
