Description
This is a blue-glazed sake cup by Tomoyuki Oiwa, who has made his highly anticipated debut after studying pottery techniques under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. The piece features a unique, sharp-edged form over which the glaze has been vigorously poured, resulting in a fresh and dynamic style. The synergistic effect between the edges and the glaze is exceptional; the glaze appears black where it is thin over the edges, and transitions to a pale leek-green where it pools in the grooves. The undulations of the surface combined with the pouring technique create a sense of motion that makes the entire landscape appear to swirl, drawing the viewer deeper and deeper into the cup.
