Description
This is a newly fired Bizen black sake cup by Takashi Baba, an artist born in Imbe who has loved Bizen ware since childhood and finds his life's joy in creating works and firing kilns. This piece was fired in the traditional climbing kiln rather than the new one, resulting in a well-fired, lustrous black finish accented by bright yellow sesame (hida-goma) glazing. True to Mr. Baba's own assessment that this was his best firing yet, the thickly applied yellow sesame creates a spectacular landscape. The fluted carving (shinogi), which fully showcases Mr. Baba's sculptural sensibility, beautifully highlights the glossy black hue.
