Description

This is a new Bizen sake cup by Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki, who continues to lead the Bizen ware world with an inexhaustible creative power. This is a very rare flat-style sake cup among Jun Isezaki’s collection of sake vessels. The vibrant, dynamic scenery created by the wood-fired kiln suits this flat form perfectly, which is designed to be appreciated for its surface. It is crafted quite shallowly, allowing the aroma of even a small amount of sake to spread. Signed wooden box to follow (please allow some time for delivery)
Diameter 10.1cm × Diameter 9.8cm × Height 3.3cm Born as the second son of Yozan Isezaki, an expert in ceramic crafts, Jun Isezaki learned pottery from an early age and entered the field after graduating from the Okayama University Special Fine Arts Course in 1959. His work covers a wide range, from traditional pieces such as vases, plates, and tea ceremony ceramics to sculptural objects and ceramic walls. He places great emphasis on both forming and firing, utilizing the unique characteristics of his materials and kilns (anagama, climbing kilns, and electric kilns) to create a style overflowing with a contemporary sensibility. He is also a leading artist in the field of ceramic reliefs and has produced numerous works. He became a full member of the Japan Kōgei Association in 1966. From 1978, he served as a special lecturer in fine arts at Okayama University for nine years. In 1998, he and his brother Mitsuru were both certified as holders of Okayama Prefecture Important Intangible Cultural Properties, and in the same year, he served as Secretary-General of the Chugoku Branch of the Japan Kōgei Association. In July 2004, he was designated as a holder of an Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure).
Awards: Toyo Kaneshige Prize, Okayama Prefectural Cultural Encouragement Award, Sanyo Shimbun Award, Excellence Award at the Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition, and many others / Prefectural Exhibition Judge
