Description

This is a new Bizen black teacup by Takashi Baba, an artist born in Imbe who has loved Bizen ware since childhood and finds his life's joy in creating pieces and firing the kiln. As Baba-sensei put it, "It was a highly successful firing," and this luxurious teacup is generously covered in rich, yellow sesame-like ash glaze (kigo). The yellow glaze also flows abundantly inside the cup, creating a magnificent contrast of jet black and gold, combined with the deep luster achieved through excellent firing. The attractive interior scenery and the rounded, generous form also make this piece suitable for use as a shochu cup. Paper box
Diameter 8.8cm × 8.8cm × Height 7.6cm Takashi Baba was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ware artist Shosuke Baba. Thinking from a young age that he would become a ceramic artist, he chose to study sculpture in university to broaden the scope of his ceramics. In 2006, he graduated from the Sculpture Department of Tokyo University of the Arts and then honed his skills at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture. He became independent in 2007 and held his first solo exhibition. Currently, he is active primarily through solo exhibitions at department stores.
