Description
This is a new Bizen black bowl by Takashi Baba, an artist born in Imbe who has loved Bizen ware since childhood and finds his greatest joy in creating works and firing kilns. Designed with the artist's philosophy that it should be versatile, it is the perfect size for any use, whether as a tea cup, a shochu cup, or a small bowl. The piece features a generous application of yellow sesame glaze (kigoma) resulting from a kiln firing that the artist describes as a great success; this is further enhanced by the diagonal fluting (shinogi), which elevates the scenery of the piece to an even more intriguing level. The foot has also been ingeniously crafted into a unique tripod style, demonstrating the artist's commitment to thoughtful design in every detail to delight the viewer. True to Baba's style of creating pottery as if playing music, this work is light and free, capturing a sense of soaring, imaginative thought that rides the winds of a new era.
