Description

This is a new Bizen kiln-change sake bottle by Yoshiteru Koriki, a popular young artist who was an apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. This piece embodies the ultimate kiln-change, created by firing with a clear, focused mind, and pushes the limits of the climbing kiln and the local clay. It is a masterpiece featuring a mesmerizing, glittering black-silver ash-covered glaze, streaked with multiple amber-translucent sesame markings that resemble tiger stripes. On the front and sides, the natural glaze has hardened into crystals, revealing hints of a lovely pale green color reminiscent of the "dragonfly eyes" found in Shigaraki ware. Signed wooden box to be provided later (please allow some time for shipment)

Influenced by his pottery-loving father, he aspired to pursue ceramics. After graduating from high school in 1989, he apprenticed under the father-son duo of Sozan and Yuho Kaneshige to learn the craft. After seven years of training, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 and struck out on his own, successfully firing his first kiln the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, his work was selected for the "Exhibition of Confectionery Vessels I Want to Use," and in 2002, he was selected for the "Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition" for the first time.
