Black-glazed sake cup

This is a new black-glazed sake cup by the popular young artist Yoshiteru Koriki, an inner disciple of the master Sozan Kaneshige. Following in the footsteps of his mentor Sozan Kaneshige, Koriki continues to research glazed works, and this sake cup represents his first foray into creating pieces with black glaze. Created with the wabi-sabi aesthetic in mind, the black glaze features fine ripples and indentations that give it a lustrous appearance, reminiscent of wet seaweed, while subtle ash deposits from the climbing kiln add accents of mustard-colored sesame glaze that deepen the sophisticated, somber tone of the black. The interior glaze also exhibits fine ripples, resulting in a unique texture and vintage look reminiscent of hand-hammered iron kettles. The body is crafted from Bizen clay, showcasing the bright, brownish, earthy character typical of Bizen ware. Signed wooden box to follow (please allow some time for shipping)
Diameter 7.5cm × Diameter 7.3cm × Height 4.9cm Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his pottery-loving father, he pursued a career in ceramics, and after graduating from high school in 1989, he apprenticed under the master Sozan Kaneshige and his son Yuho Kaneshige to learn the craft. After seven years of training, he built a climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, and established his own studio in 1996, successfully completing his first firing the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual exhibitions ever since. In 1999, he was selected for the "Exhibition of North Country Confectionery Vessels I'd Like to Use," and in 2002, he was selected for the "Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition" for the first time.
