Description

This new Bizen beer mug was freshly fired in a kiln by Takashi Soga, an artist who challenges the beauty of antiquity by recreating the same environment in which ancient Bizen ware was fired. To replicate the style of ancient Bizen, the kiln is built without the use of firebricks or other modern materials; consequently, the heat efficiency inside defies all modern logic. Because of this, the pottery exhibits an exquisite texture that transcends modern aesthetics and approaches the quality of ancient Bizen. Fired in an unconventional kiln with no chimney, shelves, or firebricks, the piece underwent unique chemical reactions, resulting in a mysterious finish with a dark, Kuro-Bizen-like surface accented by silvery, lightning-like *hidasuki* (fire cord) markings. Blue-silver grains that look as if silver gravel has scattered across the clay surface pull the viewer deeper and deeper into a mysterious world of black and silver. Paper box
Diameter 7.2cm × 7.0cm × Height 11.5cm Takashi Soga was born in Tokyo in 1984. He studied under Jun Isezaki in 2009 and built his own kiln in Kuku-i, Bizen City in 2012. He became independent and began his career as a ceramic artist in 2013.
